Week 7 Story: Why Squidward Hates SpongeBob

This story was taken from William Barker's story called "The Leopard and the Ram." In this story the Leopard and the Ram live together as friends. The Leopard finds out that the Ram uses his horns to ram things to kill it. When it started raining in their house, the Ram slips and starts to ram the Leopard. The Leopard gets scared and runs away. This is why the Leopard stays in the trees and the Ram rooms out.

Why Squidward hates Spongebob

One day SpongeBob was walking through the kelp forest when he decided he was going to build him a new home there. Squidward was walking down the same path when he decided that he was going to make him a home in the same spot. SpongeBob began working on his home the very next day. Squidward soon began working on his home and was surprised to see that it had already had a foundation. Both spongeBob and Squidward worked on their home for days. However, they never ran in to each other to see the other person working on the house. Whenever they arrived to work on the house they noticed that it had advanced over night. “It must be the jellyfish helping me out,” they both thought.

When it came the day to move in, they both arrived to see the other person trying to move in to the home. After talking for a few hours they became friends and decided to move in with each other. With both SpongeBob and Squidward had their own kids, they moved in and lived together as friends.

Everyday SpongeBob and Squidward would go out and get jelly jam and return home for dinner. Squidward would use his tentacles to collect the jelly jam. However, he did not know how SpongeBob collected his jelly jam. So Squidward told his son to go with SpongeBob and figure out how he collected his jelly jam. The next day, Squidward Jr. and SpongeBob went out to get the jelly jam. Squidward Jr. showed SpongeBob how he used his tentacles to get the jelly jam then he asked SpongeBob to show him. SpongeBob would get in the running position and yell “I’m Ready!” then begin to run at the jellyfish waving his net to collect the jam.

After Squidward Jr. told his dad, Squidward started cooking dinner. He called for SpongeBob, they was working in the garage, and told him dinner was ready. SpongeBob came running into the kitchen yelling “I’m ready!”, and started to slip on the floor. (Because they live in the ocean) Squidward was scared because he thought SpongeBob was going to kill him. Squidward and his son left and never returned. SpongeBob moved back into the city and it so happened to be by squidward. That is why Squidward hates SpongeBob.

  1. Hi Hunter!

You simply can't go wrong with Spongebob-themed renditions! I haven't read the original story but your retelling reminded me more closely to that of a story I read: Why the Cat and Dog are Enemies. That could be another cool version of it. I enjoy how they have children in your story--something we don't have in the real show yet! However, I would almost think that Squidward would be fearful of Spongebob instead of hating him if he thought his friend were to kill him.

  2. Hey Hunter!

I love that you used such universally known characters as Spongebob and Squidward. I think it's a great rendition that also brings it down to a super simple level. I found myself wanting to read more and more just because it was characters I was so familiar with! Great job! This was awesome!
I hope your semester is going well.

  3. Hey Hunter!
I think you did a really good job at re-telling this story! I like when I can read stories about characters I am familiar with, especially in this class. It makes it easier to read and relate to. I love how you ended the story with bringing it all back as to why Squidward hates Spongebob as we all know it to be. I never thought about why he really did so I liked that you did that and it was not something I was expecting. Good job!

  4. Hey Hunter! Really fun story. I think you can't go wrong with Spongebob; we all grew up watching that show. You echoed the plot of the original story really well, by bringing it into this environment we all know. It also provides a good reason for why Squidward was always so antagonistic towards Spongebob on the show. Great job!!

  5. Hey Hunter,

I think it was a great idea to retell this story using established characters that are familiar to almost everyone in this class' age groups. It makes this story a lot more fun to read, and also makes it a bit more understandable to a lot of readers because it uses characters we know and love. Overall, great job on this one!
