Reading notes: Arabian Nights; Part A

The story starts out as Scheherazade talking to her dad and telling him about her plan to stop the practice of the Sultan's! Her father says it is a great idea but ask how she would do it. She tells him that she would become his wife! Her dad begs her no for death will come over her and himself. She is with her sister and the Sultan and begins to tell The Story of the Merchant and the Genius.

The story begins with a wealthy man that takes a journey by horse. On his four day of the journey he stopped and had a meal. A man came up and told him that he was gong to kill hi for killing his son. The merchant asked the man "How would I  kill your son if I don't know him?" The man said as he was eating and throwing stones, a stone hit his son in the eye and killed him. The merchant and the Genius continue to argue. More people joined and the man said he must kill him and the others wept.

In the story of the first old man and of the hind a man adopted his slave son. His wife studied magic and took the son and turned him a calf, she also turned one of the maids into a cow. One day when he was suppose to sacrifice a cow, they brought the maid to him. She began to cry and he could not sacrifice her. She was taken away and they brought a fat calf to him. (Which was his son) The man's friend said that he could turn his son back into a human. But he must become her husband and she will punish the person who did that to him. That is when the old man began to tell the story of The Second Old Man, and of the Two Black Dogs. "The story is of two bald dogs and myself" said the man telling the prince. A brother came to the mans shop and asked him he knew him. Of course said the man, "You are my brother". The brother told the man that they must go on a sailing trip. After 2 months of sailing, the man found a wife and took her along the trip. The brothers got jealous and tried to throw the wife overboard. However, she was a fairy and could not drown, but did transport them to an island. The fairy tried to kill the brothers, but the man told her not to. She then vanished and the man spent 10 years looking for her.

Scheherazade kept telling stories of the the fisherman, the Greek king and the physician Douban, the story of the orgress,  the physicians revenge, and the sultan and the fish. Scheherazade finish her story talking about about the Young kind and the Black isles. In the end Sultan killed the queen. The The king of the black isles escorted sultan and the prince. Sultan gave the fisherman a lot of money to make him happy.
