Why the Lizard Moves His Head Up and Down
There once was a king that lived by Anansi! The king had three daughters who's names were kept a secret from the town. When they became of age, the king told the town if they could guess their names, then they could take their hands in marriage. So Anansi took some fruit and honey and dropped it near the place where the princess bathed. The princess talked amongst themselves proclaiming how sweet the fruit was reviewing their names.

When Anansi got all their names, he went to tell his friend Lizard. The next day, when it was time to tell the king their names, Lizard raced down to the town to tell the king. The king kept his promise and gave all three princess to Lizard. This made Anansi angry, for Lizard has cheated him. Anansi begged for the princess, but the king refused. In revenge, Anansi took a cock to Lizard while they were asleep. He placed some of the feathers under Lizard's pillow and cooked the cock placing a plate near Lizard's bed. He then put boiling water in Lizards mouth, making it to where Lizard could not speak.

The next day, when the king waited for the cock to crow, the king got curious and sent his men to look for him. When they got to Lizards house, they found the cooked meat and the feathers. After questioning Lizard, he would only respond by moving his head up and down. They took the Lizard to the king so he could question him as well. Lizard would only respond by shaking his head. This made the king mad. So the king took back his daughters and gave them to Anansi. Since then Lizards have always moved their heads as if they are saying, "How can any one be so foolish as to trust Anansi?"
